The steps below help applicants understand how to prepare for accreditation and what to expect during the review.
Step 1: Prepare
Review the applicable standard, IACA documents, and the requested scope. Confirm that the management system is implemented and that technical records are available.
- Define the requested scope of accreditation.
- Complete internal audits and management review.
- Collect method, equipment, personnel, and quality control records.
Step 2: Apply and assess
Submit the application and supporting documents. IACA reviews the information, plans the assessment, conducts assessment activities, and reports findings.
- Submit application and supporting records.
- Participate in document review, interviews, and witnessed activities.
- Receive and review the assessment report.
Step 3: Correct and maintain
Respond to findings with root cause analysis and corrective actions. When requirements are met, an independent decision is made. Accredited bodies then maintain compliance through surveillance and reassessment.
- Submit corrective action evidence within the required timeframe.
- Receive accreditation decision and approved scope where granted.
- Maintain records and prepare for continuing assessment.
Applications and contact
Organizations seeking accreditation should review the current documents in the Center of Documents and contact IACA before submitting an application, so the correct scope, standard, and supporting records can be confirmed.
